Vintage Wittnauer chronographs have been growing in popularity among vintage collectors. Specifically, the Wittnauer chronograph reference 7004A. This great example possesses some key elements that make it highly desirable including its 40mm case size, lollipop sweep seconds hand, and a unique and eye-catching burgundy bezel.  The simple and clean dial displays a tachymeter and a regatta countdown in the rightmost subdial. The Manual-wound Landeron cal. 248 chronograph movement is a workhorse and a favorite among manual wind chronograph fans.

The angular and robust case remains in original and unpolished condition, showing crisp geometry with light signs of honest use. The original burgundy bezel is in stunning condition, showing a subtle and desirable fade with almost no signs of use. The pump pushers and Wittnauer signed crown remain original to the watch. The screw-down case back shows minimal signs of use and retains its factory markings. The original Wittnauer “JB Champion” stainless steel brick bracelet with straight end pieces is both charming and stylish, the bracelet will fit up to a 7 3/4in wrist and exhibit normal stretch for the style and age of the bracelet.


The matte black 2-register chronograph dial is in exceptional vintage condition, with an attractive and subtle speckled patina that is consistent throughout the dial with no blemishes or scratches present. The sub-dials remain flawless and the 3 o’clock sub-dial retains all of its original brown paint within the 5-minute countdown portion. The tritium lume plots have aged to a vibrant golden patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original hands match the dial nicely, under U.V. light inspection the lollipop sweep seconds hand and minute hand retains original lume and display minor cracking, the hour hand retains exhibits a repair in the lume and retains some of its original lume.
