Seiko
1964 Seiko Automatic World Time (Ref. 6217-7000) Linen Dial
Seiko's mechanical watches have been highly prized by collectors and enthusiasts for decades, but even for those in the know, the World Time is more obscure than many of the Japanese brand's more recognizable models. It debuted in October of 1964 as a complement to the Summer Olympics, which were hosted in Tokyo that year. With its multi-colored dial and sleek case design, it was the perfect way to ring in the games.
The watch was sold with either a silver or a charcoal dial, both with contrasting colors on the interior bezel, which features a zig-zagging array of 26 cities from around the globe, allowing the wearer to track two time zones simultaneously. The 37.5mm case diameter and curved lugs made it universally wearable, and the pops of color helped it to stand out from the crowd, especially on the silver dial version.
Even now, 60 years after its debut, it's as timeless and stylish as ever.
