1966 Rolex Oyster-Perpetual 9K YG (Ref. 1002) Brushed Silver Dial W/ Britton & Sons-Made 14K YG Rolex Bracelet

$ 10,500

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual represents one of the purest expressions of the brand’s watchmaking philosophy. Bringing together the protective Oyster case and the self-winding Perpetual movement in 1931, it established a foundation that would shape generations of Rolex watches. Vintage examples carry that legacy with an understated elegance, combining everyday practicality with subtle variations in materials, dials, and regional production that continue to reward a closer look.

This 1966 ref. 1002 is a particularly compelling example. Produced for the British market, its 9K yellow gold case bears London import hallmarks dated 1967, adding a distinctly local chapter to its Swiss origins. The brushed silver dial provides a refined contrast to the warmth of the gold, lending the watch a restrained, versatile aesthetic that feels as relevant today as it did six decades ago.

Further distinguishing this example is its era-correct and rarely encountered 14K yellow gold Rolex bracelet, manufactured by Birmingham-based Britton & Sons. While we cannot confirm whether it accompanied the watch when first sold or was paired with it later, the bracelet beautifully complements the case and adds another layer of collector interest to an already uncommon configuration, making the complete watch considerably more intriguing than its familiar silhouette might suggest.

With its British-market details, unusual combination of gold purities, and quietly elegant presentation, this Oyster Perpetual captures much of what makes vintage Rolex so rewarding. It is an “if you know, you know” watch in the best sense: immediately appealing on the wrist, with the details to hold your attention long after that first impression.

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent 9K yellow gold case retains full, even lugs with light evidence of prior polishing and only gentle signs of wear. The 9K yellow gold engine-turned bezel remains well defined, showing similarly light polishing and minimal wear. The inside of the case back bears the UK assay hallmarks, as well as the full serial number of the watch, which matches the serial number between the lugs on the midcase. The outside case back features an attractive hand-engraved personalization reading “HKM, 11/9/70.” Completing the watch is an era-correct and exceptionally rare 14K yellow gold Rolex bracelet manufactured by Britton & Sons. The bracelet presents beautifully, with evidence of light polishing consistent with the case and only minor signs of use, and accommodates wrists measuring approximately 7 to 7.5 inches.

DIAL & HANDS

The original and uncommon vertically brushed silver dial remains in exceptional vintage condition, with only minimal signs of age and no damage present. The tritium lume plots have developed an attractive golden patina and show no notable degradation under UV light inspection. The original tritium hands have aged to complement the dial beautifully and likewise exhibit no degradation under UV light.
