1968 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 1601) Matte Black Dial
The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made, even though the Datejust was launched in 1945 it has remained a timeless classic and is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design. The Datejust can be worn just as easily with a suit as it can be with jeans and a tee-shirt. The thick case appears to have been minimally polished in the past and retains symmetrical and even lugs that display light signs of use. The unpolished white gold fluted bezel is in stunning condition, showing almost no signs of previous use. The original Rolex 6251H rolled-link Jubilee bracelet with 55 end pieces retains 22 links that show some stretch which is normal for the style and age of the bracelet.
The matte black dial is in exceptional original condition and features rare and aesthetically attractive silver text. The tritium lume plots have aged to a charming yellow patina, under U.V. light inspection the 1 o'clock lume plot remains intact but does exhibit some minor degradation, the rest of the lume plots are fully intact. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and display no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The metallic date wheel is original with closed 6's and 9's which is common in this era.
