1968 Rolex Submariner (Ref. 5513) Meters First Dial W/ Papers

The Rolex Submariner reference 5513 is the embodiment of the classic dive watch, simple yet sophisticated and rugged. The ref. 5513 was first introduced in 1962 and ceased production in late 1989. The ref. 5513 is a purpose-built dive watch that lacks the date function like other Rolex Submariner models. (eg. ref. 1680.)

When Rolex started printing the Submariner's depth rating on the dial, which started in late 1955 and was on all Submariner models in 1956, they were all printed with a meters first depth rating. This trend continued into references 5512 and 5513 respectively, until the depth rating was later changed in 1970 to a "feet first" text format. Rumor has it that Rolex changed the dial to feet first due to the expanding United States market.

The thick case has been polished in the past and retains symmetrical lugs that display light signs of use. The original MK III "fat font" bezel insert is missing its pearl but is in otherwise great condition, showing light signs of use. The case retains its original 7mm twin-lock crown that shows light wear. The Rolex 6251H rolled-link Jubilee bracelet with 55 end pieces was sourced on the watch and retains 19 links that show normal stretch for the style and age of the bracelet and will fit up to a 7 1/4-inch wrist.

The original matte black "meters first" dial has a handsome vintage aesthetic, showing some age in the bottom right quadrant with the rest of the dial remaining clean. The tritium lume plots have taken on a vibrant golden patina, under U.V. light inspection the 3 and 4 o'clock lume plots exhibit degradation. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly, with no degradation present under U.V. light inspection.

The watch comes with its original Rolex guarantee booklet. The watch is keeping time, previous service history is unknown.
