Citizen
1969 Citizen Seven Star Dive Watch (Ref. 4-520343 Y)
Founded in 1918 in Japan, Citizen is the Pepsi to Seiko's Coke, and one of the most integrated manufacturers in the watch world. They make all of their watch components in-house and, remarkably, don't have any manufacturing facilities outside the brand's home country.
Today, the brand is well known in the dive world thanks to their Promaster line, but in the '60s, they were just starting to get their proverbial feet wet. They'd engineered Japan's first waterproof watch in 1959, six years before Seiko launched the 62MAS, and watches like this Seven Star were a natural progression on the way to becoming a dive watch powerhouse. With a depth rating of 100m, it was more than enough for most casual divers and water sport enthusiasts and offered a good combination of price and functionality – just like the modern Promasters that would succeed it decades later.
