1969 Rolex Air-King (Ref. 5500) "Rare Metalic Silver Dial"
Sometimes it's the smallest details that make the biggest difference. This is one of the coolest and most unique Rolex Air-King Ref 5500 series that we have ever seen. The dial color is a rare and seldom seen matte and metallic silver that is downright stunning. The same dial texture can be seen on Paul Newman Daytona references. We always say its about the details, some of the other unique elements that make this specific example rare outside of the dial finish are that the top of the markers is inlaid with black enamel as opposed to having the tops of the markers high polished as can be seen in other examples from the same era. Additionally, the SWISS underneath the 6 o'clock markers is known as Wide Boy Hoover – the extra wide T SWISS T which is also commonly seen on the dials of pump pusher Newmans

The symmetrical case has been lightly polished in the past and retains full lugs that show light signs of honest use. The smooth stainless steel bezel remains unpolished and shows match signs of use to the case. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.
This particular silver dial is an extremely rare dial variant, as the dial and printing are done in the same style as the "Paul Newman" exotic Daytona dial. The lume plots have taken on a gorgeous yellow coloration, under U.V. light inspection show no lume loss or degradation and remain fully intact. Additionally, the original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and show no lume loss or degradation when inspected under U.V. light.
