1969 Zenith Sub Sea Diver (Ref. A3630)
Zenith does an excellent job of changing one's perspective on what traditional can mean, and a perfect example of that is the ref. A3630. Yes, the ref. A3630 is a diving watch in the traditional sense, but the characteristics of this Zenith are so untraditional from what is normally seen from dive watches from the late 1960s. Every aspect of this watch has been thought out; the conservative 38mm case makes this watch feel just as suitable to wear with a dress suit as it does a wet suit, the matte black dial with high contrasting white outer minute track and arrow minute hand makes easy detection of elapsed time, and the ladder-link style bracelet is just plain funky but definitely makes for a stylish look. The ref. A3630 is powered by Zeniths inhouse 2552PC movement with date. Like most Zenith movements the 2552PC is both robust and reliable.
Zenith did a good job of breaking up the monotony in the dive watch world in the 60s and 70s, but due to their different designs they often received poor sales results and so they didn't make very many pieces. Which of course is why Zenith dive watches are so coveted by collectors, like the Zenith ref. A3630, this reference has a truly unique design but is rarely seen on the open market, especially in good condition. The A3630 is perfect for any attire or situation and would make for a perfect and durable daily driver.
