Vintage Tudor Snowflake Advertisement

The Tudor “Snowflake” is the nickname given to the Tudor Submariners that have distinct features like square hour markers and a unique handset where the hour hand resembles a snowflake, hence the nickname. Rolex/Tudor introduced this dial and hand configuration to increase visibility in low-light conditions. The Tudor Snowflakes were produced from 1968 to the mid-1980s and were made with either black or blue dial colorations. The Snowflakes were also made with or without a date complication.

The Tudor Snowflake Submariners, much like the other Submariners produced by Rolex and Tudor, have a long-standing history and were supplied to military forces, including the U.S. Navy, the Marine Nationale (French Navy), and the RCN (Royal Canadian Navy).

CASE & BRACELET

The impressive case boasts thick dimensions and broad factory chamfers, while exhibiting honest wear from use and no notable evidence of being previously polished. The original blue Mk III "fat font" bezel insert features a lovely light blue/grey fade while retaining visible numerals and the tritium pearl, with nominal wear present. The case retains its original Rolex-signed 7mm twin-lock crown. The case back retains crisp factory engravings and features minimal wear. The watch comes supplied on a new blue/grey Phoenix NATO strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The original matte dark blue dial has achieved a lovely vintage aesthetic and features the recognized "bubbling" patina that is commonly seen on Tudor dials of this era. The tritium lume plots have achieved an attractive dark custard, almost brown patina, and exhibit no degradation under UV light inspection. The original tritium hands have aged to a warm ivory patina and exhibit no degradation under UV light inspection. The alternating red-and-black “roulette” date wheel remains original to the watch.
