1970 Omega Seamaster (Ref. 166.066) “Big Yellow” W/ Box & Hangtag
There is something about the early vintage Omega Seamsters that truly embodies the golden era of dive watches of the 1960-1970s. Omega has a long history and heritage in dive watches, which dates back to the 1930s. The seahorse adorned caseback of the Seamaster series pays tribute to Neptune, the Roman god of the sea. The seahorse logo was conceived by engraver Jean-Pierre Borle. He was inspired by an image of Neptune driving a chariot pulled by seahorses, which is why the Omega seahorses are depicted wearing bridles.
|Bracelet||Black Nylon NATO Strap|
The beautiful case appears to have been very lightly polished in the past, retaining a strong brushed finish on top with a mirror polish on the sides which display very minimal signs of previous use. The case retains its original Omega signed crown. The case back is adorned with the classic Seamaster seahorse medallion. The watch will come supplied on a black nylon NATO strap.
The excellent silver linen dial and vibrant yellow inner bezel create an excellent aesthetic. The yellow inner bezel remains vibrant and in near flawless condition, showing no fading or signs of age. The silver linen dial is in very impressive condition, exhibiting very few signs of age. The tritium lume dots have aged to a creamy ivory coloration and the 3 and 10 o'clock lume plots show minor degradation when inspected under U.V. light, the rest of the lume plots remain fully intact. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and show no degradation under U.V. light inspection.
