1970 Rolex Oysterdate Precision (Ref. 6694) Silver Dial

$ 2,850

If you know, you know. Initially released in the early ‘50s with the ref. 6094, the Rolex Oysterdate Precision was designed as a simple, manually-wound, entry-level alternative to Rolex’s recently released Datejust and Date models, featuring a 34mm case and little more than a date complication for features and ornamentation.

After a few iterations in between, Rolex perfected the Oysterdate in the minds of many with the ref. 6694. Featuring an upgraded 17-jewel cal. 1225 movement, this was the model’s final iteration, but also its longest living version, with a production run that stretched nearly 30 years, until it was finally discontinued in the late ‘80s.

This ref. 6694 is a fantastic example of that final iteration, featuring a beautiful grey dial and original stainless steel oyster bracelet. It’s a great way to get your Rolex story started or a fantastic next addition to any collection.

CASE & BRACELET

The impressive case retains thick, crisp, and symmetrical lugs that show no notable evidence of being previously polished, with nominal wear present. The smooth stainless steel bezel is in excellent vintage condition with light signs of use present. The Rolex 78250 Oyster bracelet with 557 end pieces is a later service unit and retains 13 links that show minimal stretch and will fit up to a 7.5-inch wrist.

DIAL & HANDS

The silver sunburst dial is in well-preserved vintage condition, showing some minor aging at the edges of the dial, which is common, and has also developed a subtle warmth that contributes to the overall aesthetic. The tritium lume plots all remain present on the dial with minor degradation present when inspected under UV light; the lume plots have taken on a dark grey patina. The original tritium hands have aged a shade lighter than the dial, but coordinate nicely and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light. The metallic date wheel is original with open 6's and 9's.
