1970s Heuer Autavia Automatic (Ref. 11630MH) "Orange Boy"

The Heuer Autavia came into production in 1933 as a dashboard timer for automotive racing and flying, where the Autavia name is derived, Auto and Aviation. The Autavia was then later introduced in 1962 (The same year Jo Siffert entered Formula One) as the wristwatch we know today, and soon became the flagship for the entire Brand.

From the 60s through the 80s the Heuer Autavia saw an impressive number of variations. From automatic movements to manual movements, racing chronographs, GMTs, and even regatta timers, there's truly an Autavia for everyone. Each variation features unique aesthetic differences, usually accompanied by a clever nickname. This paired with the incredible engineering and movement-making that was seen by Heuer in this era makes it no secret why the Autavia, or Heuer in general, has remained a staple fixture within the watch collecting community.

The bidirectional "minute/hours" ratcheting bezel shows light wear, the pearl was replaced with a service luminova unit at some point. The case retains its original Heuer signed crown - set on the left side of the case. The fluted pump pushers are also original to the watch. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black dial is in exceptional overall condition, showing no damage whatsoever. The grey sub-dials are also in excellent condition and feature a charming speckled patina. The tritium lume-filled markers and plots are a soft yellow in color and exhibit no notable signs of degradation. The original tritium hands match the dial nicely, under U.V. light inspection the minute hand exhibits very minor cracking and remains stable, the hour hand shows no degradation.
