The relationship between Movado and Zenith started in 1969 when the two brands, along with Mondia, underwent a merger that benefitted all parties involved and pushed all of the brands forward in some pretty interesting ways.

In fact, despite Zenith's large standing in other parts of the world, the brand had a hard time selling their watches in the US due to a copyright squabble with Zenith Radio Corp. So, thanks to the new partnership, the brand was able to ship their watches to the new world with the Movado name on the dial instead.

That's where co-branded pieces like this ref. 01-0051-380 come in. To the untrained eye, it could look like a bit of a mish-mash of watch brands and parts. But now that we know the truth, we know that it's a best-of-both-worlds offering that utilizes that very design-centric Movado aesthetic alongside a powerful Zenith movement. And with a beautiful metallic blue dial, it's really easy on the eyes, too.

CASE & BRACELET

The rounded square cushion-style case features a truly unique scalloped bezel which offers a small window to the side of the crystal on all four sides of the watch. The case exhibits very crisp finishing throughout and gentle wear. The Movado signed crown is original to the watch. The case back is in great overall condition, with light signs of wear and highly legible factory engravings. The watch comes supplied on a vintage two-piece blue leather strap with Movado signed stainless steel tang buckle.

DIAL & HANDS

The metallic blue dial and matching inner bezel are both in remarkable, near-perfect condition, showing no damage or notable elements of age. It features large steel hour markers with two lines of white enamel , and matching steel baton hands with lume still intact. At 4:30, there's a date window with large, legible numerals in great condition. The lume of the dial and hands have both aged to a creamy beige patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light.
