Wittnauer
1970s Wittnauer Dual-Time Gold-Plated (Ref. 5025) 'Cal. 5K'
Founded in 1885 by Swiss immigrant Albert Wittnauer in New York, Wittnauer established itself as a brand dedicated to precision timekeeping for exploration, aviation, and navigation. Though often overlooked today, the company played a meaningful role throughout 20th-century horology, even accompanying astronaut Neil Armstrong during the Gemini 8 mission. The brand consistently balanced technical ingenuity with distinctly period-driven design, and few watches capture that spirit better than this remarkable dual-time wristwatch from the 1970s.
Presented in a striking gold-plated integrated bracelet case, this piece embodies the bold futurism of the era through its sculptural form and richly textured finish. Its defining feature is the elegant dual-time display, powered by opposing Cal. 5K manual-wind movements and operated independently via slim crowns positioned at both 3 and 9 o’clock. The contrasting champagne and deep purple sub-dials, each adorned with stylized Breguet numerals, create a playful yet sophisticated visual balance rarely seen in vintage watch design. Equal parts functional travel watch and avant-garde statement piece, this Wittnauer stands as a wonderfully eccentric example of 1970s creativity.

CASE & BRACELET
The space-age oval-shaped gold-plated case features a unique textural finish and remains in excellent condition, showing no notable evidence of being previously polished and only light signs of honest use. The opposing crowns, at 3 and 9 o'clock, are believed to be orignal to the watch. The case back shows minimal signs of use. The integrated gold-plated bracelet is also in excellent condition and features a Wittnauer signed crown. The bracelet will reasonably fit between a 5.5-inch and 7.5-inch wrist.
DIAL & HANDS
The original dial continues the textured finish of the case and features a branded plaque at the 6 o'clock. The opposing 12-hour sub-dials, each independently driven by its own Cal. 5K movement and featuring Breguet numerals, feature some minor wear spots and age expected from a non-waterproof watch of its age. The original black and gold opposing handsets remain in excellent condition, with minimal wear present.
ACCESSORIES
None. The watch is keeping time perfectly, but the service history is unknown. A movement service can be purchased upon request.
