1972 Rolex Red Submariner Ref. 1680 (Mk V Dial)
The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1969, the Ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The Infamous Red Submariner is also a Ref. 1680 which had the word "Submariner" in red lettering which was produced by Rolex from 1969-1975.
The Mark V dial differentiates itself with the following which can be seen in the text located above the 6 o'clock – Feet First Middle Feet First Dial Red Lettering Directly on Dial. Less Pronounced Open “6”
This specific Red Submariner is in very good overall condition piece would make a versatile daily driver in a casual setting or would look great paired with a suit. The Ref. 1680 is an all around wonderful sports watch, and would make a nice addition to an existing collection, or would be a unique stand alone vintage piece.

This excellent thick case has even lugs with visible chamfers. Serial and reference numbers are fully intact and clearly visible. The bezel insert is a later era Rolex service replacement. Watch comes on a vintage style leather strap with steel buckle.
The dial is original MK V in excellent vintage condition. Very attractive creamy patina throughout. 99% flawless with exception of some of the large minute track markers paint loss at the edge. Original and tritium hands are matching perfectly to the dial patina. The metallic date wheel displays the era correct open 6's and 9's.
