1971 Seiko Bell-Matic Alarm (Ref. 4006-6039)

Seiko introduced their first alarm watch, the Bell-Matic in 1966. The Seiko Bell-Metic is revered as an exciting Seiko piece because it is a fully automatic alarm watch and hosts 4 different functions from one crown.

The Bell-Matic alarm sounds from a small, spring-powered hammer that repeatedly strikes a curved metal spring. When activated, the alarm sounds for approximately 10 seconds.

One very special feature of the Bell-Metic lies within the multi-functional crown, which is used to set the time, set the alarm, wind the alarm power, and set the day. The automatic winding capability of the Bell-Matic frees up the crown to perform all four functions.

To power the alarm, press in the 2 o'clock button and wind the crown. The Bell-Matic crown requires only a few quick rotations to fully power the alarm. Pulling out the button at the 2 o’clock sets the alarm while pushing it back in disables it. Pull the crown out to its first position, and this will enable the indicator ring to be moved and set to the desired alarm time. The triangular marker on the ring indicates when the alarm will sound. In addition to the other (literal) bells and whistles, this watch allows for quick setting the date by pushing and releasing the alarm button into its second position.
