Rolex 1680 Vintage Ad

The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1969, the Ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The Infamous Red Submariner is also a Ref. 1680 which had the word "Submariner" in red lettering which was produced by Rolex from 1969-1975.

The Mark V dial differentiates itself with the following which can be seen in the text located above the 6 o'clock  – starting with a serial number that falls in the correct range for this type of dial. Additionally, the dial features the Rolex crown with the correct elongated base and the almost-closed 6's in the depth rating, the core characteristics of an original Mark V dial.

The "fat font" bezel insert has taken on a lovely anthracite grey fade and retains its tritium pearl which matches the dial perfectly. The Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 end pieces remains in excellent condition, retaining 11 links and showing minimal wear and stretch.

The matte black Mk. V Red Submariner dial is in exceptional condition showing no blemishes or dial wear, there is very light chipping on the outer minute track which is very common of this reference. The tritium lume remains bright with a very slight ivory patina, under U.V. light inspection the lume plots exhibit no degradation. The original hands have been professionally restored with tritium to match the dial. The metallic date wheel is era correct with open 6's and 9's.
