1972 Rolex Submariner (Ref. 5513) "Non-Serif" Dial

The Rolex Submariner reference 5513 stands as one of the purest expressions of the classic dive watch. Introduced in 1962 and produced until 1989, the ref. 5513 enjoyed one of the longest production runs of any Submariner reference. Its appeal lies in its simplicity, featuring the iconic Submariner case design and a clean, highly legible dial free of a date complication, resulting in a tool watch that is both purposeful and enduringly stylish.

Among vintage Rolex models, the 5513 is widely regarded as the quintessential no-date Submariner. Its unmistakably utilitarian character has served as the benchmark for countless sports watches that followed, many attempting to replicate the balance of form and function that Rolex achieved so effortlessly with this model. Today, the ref. 5513 remains a cornerstone of vintage collecting, an essential reference that nearly every enthusiast encounters at some point in their journey, and for good reason.

CASE & BRACELET

The impressive case retains sharp factory chamfers while boasting thick, symmetrical lugs that display no evidence of being polished in the past and honest wear from use. The original black Mk. III "fat font" bezel is also in excellent condition, showing only nominal age with no noticeable scratches or wear. The Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 end pieces is a later service unit and retains 11 links that show no stretch and will fit up to a 7.25-inch wrist.

DIAL & HANDS

The original matte black "non-serif" dial is in near-perfect vintage condition, showing no damage or major signs of age, though some very minor clipping to the white minute track is present, but it is invisible to the naked eye and very common in this era. The tritium lume plots have taken on a wonderful golden yellow patina and show no degradation under UV light inspection. The original tritium hands have aged to a more subtle eggshell patina, yet coordinate nicely with the overall aesthetic of the watch, and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light.

ACCESSORIES

None. The watch is keeping time perfectly, though the service history is unknown. A movement service can be purchased upon request.
