1973 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 1601) Silver Sigma Dial W/ Papers
The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made, even though the Datejust was launched in 1945 it has remained a timeless classic and is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design. The Datejust can be worn just as easily with a suit as it can be with jeans and a tee-shirt. The DateJust would make a great start for a new vintage collector, or be a great addition to an expanding collection.
This specific 1973 DateJust Ref. 1601 retains it original dial silver "Pie Pan" Sigma dial which is sought after among collectors. A Sigma dial is a Rolex dial named for the letters printed at the bottom of the dial at the 6 o'clock position. Most Rolex dials are commonly marked with “T Swiss T,” under the 6 o'clock marker, however, a Sigma dial is marked “σ T SWISS T σ.” signifying the use of gold components.
This piece would make a great start for a new vintage collector, or be a great addition to and expanding collection. We love the early Rolex DateJust for its simplicity and its classic sophistication. This specific example retains the original punched papers and hang tag. The watch also just received a complete overhaul and is running flawlessly at COSC spec.
