1974 Seiko Chronograph (Ref. 6138-0030) "Kakume"

The Kakume or “Square Eyes” Seiko automatic chronograph is powered by the revered Seiko cal. 6138 movement and beloved by enthusiasts for its oddball design and color scheme. Featuring large, and square, sub-dials at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions on the dial, the ref. 6138-0030 also features a quickset day and date complication. This very original Seiko Kakume example is very well preserved and comes on its original Seiko “fishbone” bracelet.

Because Seiko made so many varieties of chronographs at the time, and because they were on the more affordable end of the watch spectrum, many of the remaining 70s chronographs saw their fair share of rugged use, revealing their age and decades of use. However, this piece is in excellent condition for a chronograph of that era.

CASE & BRACELET

The large geometric case has seen a light polish in the past and retains all of its angles and dimensions. The blue Tachymeter bezel remains bright in coloration and shows light signs of use. The case retains its original pump pushers and crown. The case back retains all of its original factory markings in crisp condition. The original Seiko "fishbone" bracelet with Z039 end pieces retains 15 links with very minimal stretch.

DIAL & HANDS

The blue sunburst dial is both vibrant and stylish, the dial shows some light patina around the markers. The lume topped markers show some light degradation throughout, the lume plots at the 6, 9, and 12 o'clock remain fully intact with a slight creamy patina. The original luminous hands match the dial perfectly and exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V. light inspection.
