$ 68,500

1991 Rolex Day-Date (Ref. 18238) 18k YG Onyx Dial

On an extremely limited basis, Rolex manufactured timepieces featuring exotic materials. Such as dials made from various minerals, woods, and stones including; black onyx, burl wood, lapis lazuli, birch, malachite, fossil, coral, aventurine, and ferrite, among others… These exotic variants are always strikingly vivid with a minimalist design, and each exotic variant was produced in very limited numbers. With rarity varying between materials, the rarer the material was, the fewer Rolex produced.

Stone dials on the Datejust are a rarity, as Rolex typically reserved these executions for the Day-Date. The malachite dial brings a fluid green texture that contrasts beautifully against the warm yellow gold case, resulting in a regal and uncommon pairing. This distinctive combination has long captured the attention of collectors, making it a standout within the Datejust line

DIAL & HANDS

The original and beautiful malachite stone dial, comprised of flowing stripes of numerous green shades, is truly captivating. Making for one of the most attractive and sought-after combinations within the vintage Datejust offerings. Characteristically for malachite stone dials, some hairline cracks are present; however, they are virtually unnoticeable to the naked eye and do not affect the aesthetic value of the watch. The solid yellow gold hands are in excellent condition. The metallic gold date wheel is original with "open" 6's and 9's.
