*Unpolished* 1978 Rolex Submariner (Ref. 1680)

The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1969, the ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. ref. 5512 and 5513). The Infamous Red Submariner is also a ref. 1680 which had the word "Submariner" in red lettering, manufactured from 1969-1975. This watch is an example of what is referred to as the "White Dial." It is the first ref. 1680 with the word "Submariner" in white lettering.

This specific piece would make a versatile daily driver in a casual setting or would look great paired with a suit. The ref. 1680 is an all-around wonderful sport watch, and would make a nice addition to an existing collection, or would be a unique stand-alone vintage piece.

CASE & BRACELET

The exceptional case is believed to remain unpolished as it retains crisp factory chamfers and factory finishing throughout with honest signs of use present. The original bezel retains deep groves and is potentially unpolished as well. The original Mk III "fat font" bezel insert remains deep in color, though in bright light it does show a slight navy color, the pearl is a luminova replacement. The original Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 end pieces retains 11 links that show almost no stretch and will fit up to a 7 1/2-inch wrist. The case back features an engraving that reads "For 30 Years Excellence With Stewart Equip Co."

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black Mk III dial is in exceptional, virtually flawless original condition, showing no damage or age whatsoever. The tritium lume plots have taken on a desired creamy patina, under U.V. light inspection the lume exhibits some imperfections common for watches in this era, but no actual degradation. The original tritium hour and minute hands have aged to a darker patina than the dial which is commonly seen in this era and the seconds hand matches the dial, overall the hands match the watch's overall aesthetic in an attractive and cohesive manner. Under U.V. light inspection the hands display no degradation. The metallic date wheel is original with open 6's and 9's.

ACCESSORIES

None. The watch was recently serviced and is keeping time perfectly, backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
