Heuer
1980's TAG Heuer Professional Diver (Ref. 844/5)
Introduced in 1979, the Heuer 844 was built as a true professional tool watch—robust, legible, and powered by reliable ETA automatic movements. Quickly adopted by divers and enthusiasts alike, the 844 series established itself as one of the most versatile and dependable dive watches of its era.
By 1985, Techniques d’Avant Garde (TAG) had acquired Heuer, ushering in a new era for the brand. That same year, the TAG Heuer 844/5 was released. In essence, it was a Heuer 844 with updated TAG branding, but it carried far greater significance: this was the final automatic model in the legendary 844 line, and the only example to bear the TAG Heuer logo.
Classified within the “1000 Series,” a system inherited from Heuer, the 844/5 bridged past and future—its DNA would shape TAG Heuer’s subsequent 1500, 2000, and beyond. Today, the 844/5 is recognized not only as a ruggedly capable diver, but as a transitional reference that captures the pivotal moment when Heuer evolved into TAG Heuer. Collectible, historically significant, and endlessly wearable, it’s a cornerstone piece in the brand’s dive watch legacy.

CASE & BRACELET
The excellent M.R.P S.A. case is in impressive, gently-worn condition overall, showing gentle signs of wear from use, but retains the original factory chamfers, and the geometry is still present and intact. The original unidirectional bezel exhibits only light signs of use. The unsigned screw-down crown is original and correct for this watch. The case back retains all of its original factory markings in crisp condition; there are some tool marks present on the case back. The watch comes supplied on a new black NATO style strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The original matte black dial remains in virtually flawless condition; the only elements of age on the dial are nominal in nature and invisible to the naked eye. The tritium lume plots have achieved a beautiful creamy patina with no notable degradation present under U.V. light inspection. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and show discoloration and patina from age consistent with other examples from this era. Under U.V. light inspection, the hands glow consistent with the lume on the dial and show no degradation or lume loss.
