*Limited Edition* 2004 Omega Speedmaster Professional (Ref. 3570.40) "Japan Racing Dial" Full Set
Before the Omega Speedmaster was famously selected by NASA for manned space flight, and subsequently became known as the "Moon Watch", it's commonplace was in the automotive world and on the race tracks worn by the racers themselves as their personal timing instruments. In celebration of this history Omega actually made a racing-specific "exotic" dial in the early 70s for the Speedmaster Professional, which may have been one of their first limited releases as these original racing dial Speedmasters are exceptionally rare. They also did a racing dial in the Speedmaster Mark II which was produced in much higher numbers.
In homage to the grail-level racing dial Speedmaster Professional of the 1970s, Omega recreated the watch as an exclusive for the Japanese market in 2004. Fittingly, this recreation was also produced in a very low quantity, only 2,004 unnumbered models were made to coincide with the watch's model year.
Apart from the Japan Racing Speedmaster's inherent collectability, it also possesses a nearly perfect aesthetic. The high-visibility dial consisting of grey, red, white, and orange amplifies the classic Speedmaster design to create a watch that looks fast sitting on your wrist, with all the seriousness and touch of whimsy you'd expect of a true racer.
