*Like New* 1970s Mondia Chronograph (Ref. 02.807.20)
What’s that? You’ve never heard of Mondia? Well, perhaps you’re aware of its sister brands Movado and Zenith?
Founded in the early 1900s, Mondia was a small, independent Swiss watch company making boutique watch lines for the first 60-plus years of its existence before eventually switching its focus to more mass-market production. That change in vision brought Movado-Zenith calling, after which the 3 brands formed the appropriately named Movado-Zenith-Mondia group.
With a history like that, it’s a little strange that Mondia isn’t a more commonly known brand. But look at it like this - it’s a great way to get a fantastic piece with heritage at a fraction of the price that a similarly aged Movado or Zenith would cost.
And this like-new chronograph from the '60s, with its funky-as-hell dial and gold-capped case, is as cool as they come.
|Dial||Brown / White / Black|
|Bracelet||2pc Leather Rally Strap|
The oversized 44mm gold-capped cushion-style case is in original unpolished and untouched condition, appearing to be almost unworn, with only minor storage marks present throughout and a generous amount of blue and purple oxidation around the case sides. It retains its original Mondia-signed crown and pump-pushers. The stainless steel case back is clean, and still partially retains the original wax seal on the space capsule medallion. The watch will be supplied on a 2-piece leather rally strap.
Where to begin… The multi-colored dial features a brown sunburst center with unique asymmetrical chronograph registers at 3 and 9 o’clock. The bright orange sub-dial hands match the center chronograph hand, while the hour and minute hands are gold to coincide with the 12, 1, 5, 7, and 11 o’clock hour indices. All the tritium lume has aged to a light cream patina and under U.V. light inspection no degradation is present in the dial and hands.
None. The watch was recently serviced and is keeping time perfectly, backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
