Tropical 1968 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 1603)
The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made, even though the Datejust was launched in 1945 it has remained a timeless classic and is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design. The Datejust can be worn just as easily with a suit as it can be with jeans and a tee-shirt. The Datejust would make a great start for a new vintage collector, or be a great addition to an expanding collection.
We love the early Rolex Datejust for its simplicity and its classic sophistication. The engine turned bezel on this example yields a classic and slightly less dressed up look than the gold fluted bezel more commonly found on the Datejust making it a bit more versatile, especially as a first vintage piece.

CASE & BRACELET
The excellent case retains very thick and symmetrical lugs that show crisp brushing and light signs of use. The stainless steel engine turned bezel is in wonderful unpolished condition and displays only minimal signs of use. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The stunning tropical dial started life as a matte silver finish and has aged to achieve one of the most incredibly attractive patinas we've ever seen. Apart from the naturally formed patina, the dial exhibits no major damage or scratches. The tritium lume plots show a handsome ivory patina and only minimal degradation in some of the plots when inspected under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly with no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The metallic date wheel is era correct with open 6's and 9's.
