Tropical 1970 Rolex Red Submariner (Ref. 1680) Mk. II "Meters First" W/ Box & Papers
The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1969, the ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The Infamous Red Submariner is also a Ref. 1680 which had the word "Submariner" in red lettering which was produced by Rolex from 1969-1975.
Mark II Red Submariner dials fall within a 2.2M - 2.45M serial range. The key identifiers of the Mark II Red Sub are the following: The red “SUBMARINER” text is printed over white. The “2” of 200m is hooked, the “F” in feet is thin, and the “6’s” of 660 are open in the meters first depth rating.

CASE & BRACELET
The thick and symmetrical case has been professionally restored to retain crisp chamfers and strong finishing throughout. The original Mk. 3 "fat font" bezel insert is in exceptional condition remaining black in coloration with minimal signs of use and retains its tritium pearl at the 12 o'clock position which matches the dial patina perfectly. The case retains its trip-lock crown. The inside of the case back is stamped I.70. The Rolex 9315 folded-link Oyster bracelet with 380 end pieces has been polished on the clasp and retains 11 links that show slight stretch from use.
DIAL & HANDS
The original "meters first" Mk. II Red Submariner dial has achieved an impressively vibrant tropical brown coloration and is in remarkably well-preserved condition, showing no blemishes and only minimal chipping in the white outer minute track which is very common in Red Submariner dials. The tritium lume plots have evenly aged to a creamy golden coloration and exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the dial nicely and show no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The metallic date wheel is original with open 6's and 9's.
ACCESSORIES
The watch comes complete with its original inner and outer boxes, Rolex punched guarantee paper, serialized hangtag and chronometer hangtag, Oyster booklets, Rolex Anchor, and Rolex cigarette card. The watch was recently serviced and is keeping time within COSC spec, backed by. 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
