*Unpolished* 1960s Benrus Ultra-Deep (Ref. 6089) Super-Compressor
Patented in 1956 by Ervin Piquerez SA (EPSA), the SuperCompressor case possessed a unique sealing system that set it apart from other dive watch cases of the day. When exposed to higher water pressure, the spring-loaded case back of the SuperCompressor case sealed even tighter. Another innovation with the SuperCompressor was its approach to securing the bezel. As most diving watch timing bezels of the era rotated outside the case, the Super Compressor’s timing bezel rotated internally and was operated externally through a secondary crown, giving the SuperCompressor case its distinctive twin crown appearance. While not the best innovation in practice (due to the difficulty of manipulating a crown with diving gloves), the SuperCompressor case gained popularity. Dozens of other brands released dive watches with SuperCompressor cases, the most notable being Jaeger-LeCoultre, Enicar, Universal Genève, and IWC, Benrus, and Longines.

The unpolished case is in incredible condition showing almost no signs of use, displaying strong factory chamfers and brushed finishing on top of the lugs. The case retains its original twin cross-hatched crowns. The case retains its original crystal that features an integrated date cyclops, and shows normal signs around use around its edges. The case back is also in remarkable condition and shows all of its factory engraving and with red enamel still intact within the depth rating. The watch will come supplied on a 2pc tropic rubber strap.
The matte black dial is simply stunning, showing no imperfections or signs of aging. The inner rotating bezel is in beautiful condition as well, with its luted triangle and arabic numeral remaining fully intact under U.V. light inspection, and have achieved a distinct golden patina. The lume plots on the dial have aged differently than the bezel, and have aged to a creamy patina and show no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the dial lume perfectly and exhibit no degradation under U.V. light inspection.
None. The watch just received a full service and is keeping perfect time, backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
