1973 Rolex Red Submariner (Ref. 1680) Mk. IV Dial
The Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1969, the ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The infamous Red Submariner is also a ref. 1680, which has the word "Submariner" in red lettering and was produced by Rolex from 1969-1975.
The Mk IV dial differentiates itself with the following, which can be seen in the text located above the 6 o'clock – starting with a serial number that falls in the correct range for this type of dial. The red lettering on white and distinctive open “6” are the notable characteristics of the Mk. IV Dial. The Mk. IV was the earliest "feet first" Red Submariner.

CASE & BRACELET
The impressive case retains very thick and symmetrical lugs that retain factory chamfers, while showing light evidence of being polished in the past, and honest signs of use. The original Mk III "fat font" bezel insert has faded to a handsome and desirable light grey or "ghost" patina, showing minimal wear, with the tritium pearl intact, featuring a dark beige patina. The Rolex 9315 folded-link Oyster bracelet with 380 end pieces and "Pateted" signed diver's extension is original to the watch and retains 12 links that show mild stretch and wear for the style and age of the bracelet. The bracelet will fit up to an 8-inch wrist.
DIAL & HANDS
The original matte black Red Submariner "Mk IV" dial is in simply exceptional, near-perfect condition, showing no damage or notable age. The tritium lume plots have taken on a wonderful creamy patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light. The original tritium hands have each aged slightly differently, with the seconds hand featuring the darkest patina and the minute hand with the lightest patina, though all match the overall aesthetic of the watch perfectly, with no degradation present when inspected under UV light. The metallic date wheel with "open" 6's and 9's is original.
