Motoscaphe

With a heritage that dates back only to 1946, New York’s Alstater Watch Company—named after its Belgian-born founder, Joseph Alstater, and later abbreviated to simply Alsta—was able to go toe-to-toe with some of the biggest and oldest names in the business. 

Alsta hit its stride in the ‘60s when they transitioned from dress watches to purpose-built sport watches, but despite releasing some incredible, legendary pieces, the brand went dormant in 1978. Luckily, Alsta was given new life and began releasing new models in 2017, starting with a vintage-inspired version of their most iconic model ever – the Nautoscaph.

When avid motorcyclist, veteran watch journalist, and Beyond The Dial Co-Founder, Allen Farmelo, began pairing watches with his motorcycles and posting images on Instagram, Alsta’s CEO Angus MacFadyen reached out. A week later, Alsta had set out to design the perfect motorcycle watch. 

The result is the Motoscaph. 

Based off the famed Nautoscaph, this all-new, vintage-inspired watch is built to the highest mechanical standards, featuring a left-handed crown to eliminate digging into a bent wrist, a useful 12-hour GMT rotating bezel, ultra-clear legibility with anti-reflective coating, and an aesthetic that’s equally at home on a Harley bagger, a Ducati Panigale, a bobbed cafe racer, or a muddy BMW GS.
