1947 Rolex Oyster-Perpetual (Ref. 3372) "Bubble back"
In the early 1920s when watch brands were competing to create the first successful automatic movements from scratch, Rolex took a different approach. By affixing an automatic rotor mechanism on top of their existing manual wind movements, they ended up creating a very thick Oyster Perpetual case that we lovingly know as the "Bubble Back". Stacking the automatic mechanism on top of the manual wind movement proved beneficial, as it allowed the rotor to swing in 360 degrees without obstruction. The addition of the automatic rotor also muffled the existing manual movement, creating a quieter running watch.

CASE & BRACELET
The exceptional case is in truly impressive condition, especially for the age of the watch, and boasts extremely thick dimensions throughout the lugs while also retaining the original design integrity of the case overall. The engine-turned stainless steel bezel is also remarkably crisp for its age and shows gentle signs of use. The watch also retains its original "Rolex+Oyster" Brevet screw-down crown. The watch comes supplied on its original and very rare straight-end-piece "Made in England" Rolex stretch-rivet Oyster bracelet, the bracelet retains 12 links that show no stretch and will fit up to a 7 1/4-inch wrist.
DIAL & HANDS
The original dial is genuinely beautiful and remarkably well-preserved, showing no real damage and the only elements of age present aesthetically enhance the character of the watch. The original radium-lumed Arabic numeral dial markers exhibit no notable degradation when inspected under UV light, and retain a three-dimensional shape with a charming creamy-tan patina. The original radium hands match the dial perfectly and show no degradation when inspected under UV light.
