1971 Heuer Camaro 30 Dato (Ref. 7843 N) Chocolate Brown Dial

$ 6,250

The Camaro chronograph was introduced in 1968 as a push to strengthen the market presence of Heuer in the United States. Jack Heuer combined the surge of influence from American muscle cars with the racing and sporting pedigree of Heuer to create the Camaro, which is directly named after the super influential muscle car and at-the-time pit car of the Indy 500 race.

The lifespan of the Camaro was short, only 4 years to be exact because Heuer decided not to evolve the model alongside the Carrera and Autavia which received automatic chronograph movements after the invention of the Cal. 11 movement in 1969. Despite the short production window, a lot was accomplished in the 4 years of the Camaro with a wealth of variations created, including the Camaro 12, Camaro 30, Camaro 45, and Camaro 30 Dato, as well as 18K yellow gold and gold-plated models as well. The elusive nature of the Heuer Camaro has always made it an under-the-radar model amongst the classic Heuer chronographs, however, the unique cushion-shaped case and attractive dial configuration set the Camaro apart as a super wearable and charming chronograph from the golden era of Heuer.

CASE & BRACELET

The handsome cushion-shaped and heavily beveled case is very well-preserved, showing crisp angles and strong finishing throughout with honest wear present. The fluted pushers and Heuer-signed crown are original to the case. The screw-down case back is also in excellent condition and shows signs of being gently polished in the past. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The exceptional statin slate dial has achieved a deep chocolate color throughout that amplifies the vintage beauty of the watch. The dial itself is virtually flawless and exhibits no damage. The tritium lume plots have developed a vibrant golden yellow patina and show no degradation when inspected under UV light. The original tritium hands retain their black enamel and the tritium lume has aged a few shades lighter than the dial, under UV light inspection the minute hand features some minor cracking in the lume and remains stable, while the hour hand is fully intact.
