1962 Rolex Datejust 18K YG (Ref. 1602) Florentine Finish W/ Silver "Serpico Y Laino" Dial & Brick-Link Bracelet

$ 60,000

The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and beloved Rolex watches ever made. This classic dress watch has been produced by the Swiss luxury watchmaker since 1945 and has remained a timeless classic that is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design. The Datejust was designed for everyday wear, and its sleek and elegant design makes it one of the most universally loved watches for both men and women.

Featured here is an exceptionally rare and visually striking 1962 Rolex Datejust ref. 1602 in 18K yellow gold, distinguished by its factory-executed Florentine finish—a signature texture that elevates the watch’s presence and sets it apart within early Datejust production. Complementing the case is an equally uncommon and artisanal 18K brick-link bracelet, whose intricate center-link pattern echoes the decorative finish of the case and creates a beautifully unified aesthetic. Further enhancing its desirability, the watch bears a co-branded “Serpico Y Laino” silver dial.

Serpico Y Laino—founded by Italian jewelers Vicente Laino and Leopoldo Serpico—was the premier purveyor of fine European jewelry in Caracas, Venezuela, and served as Rolex’s exclusive distributor in the region for many years. Much like the famed Tiffany & Co. partnership, Rolex watches retailed through Serpico Y Laino were signed on the dial, and these examples are among the rarest and most sought-after co-branded Rolex variants in the collector market today.

CASE & BRACELET

The exceptional 18K yellow gold case and bezel retain a beautifully crisp and well-defined Florentine finish, showing only minimal signs of prior use and nominal evidence of past polishing. The case back preserves its original gold hallmarks, an important detail associated with watches retailed by Serpico Y Laino. The matching 18K yellow gold brick-link bracelet is in similarly impressive condition, exhibiting minimal stretch and accommodating wrists up to 7.25 inches.

DIAL & HANDS

The original silver sunburst dial, co-branded with Serpico Y Laino, is simply incredible, exhibiting no damage or age. The early tritium lume plots have achieved a charming tan patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light. The original tritium alpha hands match the dial patina perfectly and show no degradation under UV light inspection. The metallic date wheel is original with "open" 6's and 9's.
